Buyer - Materials Management Department

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Coordinates the procurement of routine production and MRO materials at the lowest cost, consistent with quality and urgency of need, by performing the following duties: Reviews, executes, and enters purchase orders and change orders according to MRP requirements. Expedites delivery of goods on routine shortages and communicates outcomes to production. Recognizes critical shortages and communicates them immediately to Manager. Coordinates activities with manufacturing to maintain inventory at planned levels. Responsible to stop further supplier processing in the event of encountering non-conforming product. Requests Return Materials Authorizations (RMA) on rejected materials and processes paperwork. Pursues completion of Supplier Corrective Action Reports. Supplier Management: communicates vendor performance scores, facilitates improvement coaching, contract management, and negotiations. Develops and implements ideas for improving assigned suppliers and/or commodities. Develops new supply sources where suppliers are inadequate. Manages cost reduction projects. Analyzes quotations received, selects suppliers, and schedules deliveries. Assists with Inventory control and reduction. Manages new product introduction material needs. Communicates late deliveries and backorders to suppliers. Researches invoice discrepancies and works with suppliers to reach agreement. Acts as a liaison between Engineering and Suppliers to communicate ECN and product revisions. Maintains organized files and records for efficient operation. Creates and updates purchasing procedures and work instructions to comply with ISO 9001. Continuously comply with all ISO standard requirements. Acts as backup for other buyer(s) in their absence. Education and/or Experience B.B.A. or B.S. in business with an emphasis in purchasing and/or logistics - preferred High school diploma or general education degree (GED) - required; and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Communication Skills Candidate must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions, the ability to write effective correspondence, and the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to suppliers, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization; Fluency in English is required. Mathematical/ Analytical Skills Candidate must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. The candidate must, also, have the ability to apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software; Intermediate Excel skills required.
