The next generation in detector detection.

Commercial vehicle operators who illegally use radar detectors in the United States have another reason to worry about being caught. It's Stealth Micro System's latest generation Radar Detector Detectors, the Spectre IV and Spectre IV+.
That's because federal law prohibits drivers of commercial motor vehicles from using radar detectors. In fact, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation 392.71 prohibits these drivers from even possessing a radar detector. Plus, radar detectors are illegal in all vehicles in Washington, D.C., Virginia, and all U.S. military installations.
And although many radar detector manufacturers may say that their devices are undetectable, the Spectre IV detects hundreds and hundreds of radar detector models certified for use in the United States by the Federal Communications Commission. That's because all radar detectors, including those that feature "cloaking" or "VG-2 Alert," operate - and are detected - in the same way.
The Spectre IV and IV+ detect radar detectors by sensing electromagnetic "leakage" from a component common to every radar detector, the local oscillator. Some manufacturers try to evade detection by supressing local oscillator leakage with shielding; others try to adjust the leakage to a frequency that the Spectre is less sensitive to.
The Spectre IV and IV+ feature electronic circuit design enhancements for improved full-spectrum sensitivity, more accurate target acquisition, and greater range, while the Spectre IV+ has a unique feature allowing better isolation of commercial vehicles using illegal radar detectors in areas where radar detectors are otherwise legal for private vehicles.
Sensitivity adjustment adapts detection to environment.
The Spectre IV and IV+ both feature user-adjustable alert threshold, allowing the detector to be adapted to its particular environment. Where radar detectors are legal, the Spectre IV+ has the added advantage of automatic signal attenuation. Since both Spectre IV models can detect many radar detectors at over 500 feet (some at close to 1,000 feet!), this degree of sensitivity, at times, can be a problem.
In "target-rich" environments – where radar detectors are generally legal – operators may not be able to easily distinguish among multiple signals. In that situation, the Spectre IV+ automatically reduces sensitivity in frequencies used by inexpensive "high-leakage" detectors while maintaining hightened sensitivity in frequencies used by detectors often used by commercial violators. This variable sensitivity, combined with proper RDD orientation, limits the detection threshold to much closer to the patrol vehicle and allows the officer to "scan" traffic for commercial vehicle offenders.
The Spectre IV and IV+ are about the size of a portable CD player and are mounted on the windshield of the patrol vehicle. They can be rotated 360 degrees so that it can detect detectors at all angles relative to the vehicle.

A message on Stealth Microsystems Pty Ltd,
the manufacturer of the Spectre RDD...
"Stealth Microsystems is acutely aware of damage to the environment caused by the manufacture of specialized electronic equipment such as radar detector detectors.
Consequently, the company has started to put into place some environmentally friendly courses of action. Stealth Microsystems will continue to further improve its environmental credentials in the future with planned increases in clean electricity generation and further recycling programs. So far the three points below have been accomplished:
• Recycled Packaging: All of Stealth Microsystems products supplied to the Australian market are packed and shipped in recycled packaging. Where possible incoming packaging is saved and reused for outgoing export products.
• Lead-Free Construction (RoHS): All Spectre RDDs for both the Australian market and the export market are now manufactured using lead-free solder. This includes all printed circuit boards, components, and power cables.
• Electricity: Stealth Microsystems currently uses approximately 5 KWH of electricity each working day. This electricity consumption is used for the final assembly and commissioning of RDDs, warranty work, repairs, and prototyping. Spectrum analyzers, soldering irons, de-soldering stations, and oscilloscopes make up the bulk of this electricity consumption.
"With this in mind Stealth Microsystems has recently installed a Photo-Voltaic Array generating an average of 6.9 KWHs (and up over 10 KWHs / day when weather conditions permit) of green electricity per day. Stealth Microsystems was the first company in Queensland to use the latest Aurora PV inverter from Magnetek. Using this advanced technology Stealth Microsystems Pty Ltd now exports any unused green electricity directly into the grid."
Stealth Microsystems also assembles its RDDs from components made in the U.S.
